On Wednesday, May 14, Dante Vergara took part in the official launch of UN Chile’s 2024 Results Report, joining others committed to driving sustainable development in the country.
The event opened with a dialogue between Trinidad Matta and Dante Vergara, who reflected on the role of youth and future generations in building a sustainable future.
In his remarks, Dante highlighted the gap between older and younger generations, emphasizing the need to design inclusive spaces that foster intergenerational dialogue and the sharing of lived experiences.
He also spoke about his 2019 trip to New York, where he was invited by UNICEF to address the United Nations General Assembly. In his speech, he called on member states to recognize a new right under the Convention on the Rights of the Child: the right to live in a healthy environment.
Following the panel, Dante met with María José Torres, UN Resident Coordinator in Chile, to thank her for the invitation and discuss the importance of expanding youth participation in decision-making spaces that were once exclusive to adults.
He also had the opportunity to meet Violet Speek-Warnery, the new UNICEF Representative in Chile, whom he warmly welcomed. Together, they explored key issues affecting young people in an ever-changing world, and the importance of creating supportive and trustworthy spaces for new generations.
The event closed with a coffee gathering, where Dante connected and shared ideas with other young leaders developing impactful community projects.
